As swimmers progress through the development phases the distance they are required to swim in training and in races increases. Being able to swim at a consistent, efficient pace allows the swimmer to cope with the training while maintaining better technique. |

Developing the skill of racing at other than sprint speed is something that all racing juniors must develop. This is often enforced when they reach the age where they must swim 50s instead of 25s or 100s instead of 50s. A typical scene has them starting a race in a flurry of arms and splashing water, then 15 or 20 seconds into the race the stroke rate drops by a half until they are within 10 metres of the end when the final sprint to the finish happens. This is not the best way to race. Being able to train race distance at a consistent stroke rate builds the feel for the pace. Pacing can be learned by repetition, much like the rest of technique development.
As a parent of a junior squad member, are you getting your money's worth? Parents can rest assured; the Wetronome has now been used from novice through to Australian Olympic team members, all with noticeable improvement on results. At a price that a swimmer can use for years of swimming improvement, many clubs are starting to standardise on the Wetronome for training equipment.
For coaches, the Wetronome can help cope with the logistics of many swimmers at a club. The flexibility of ease of programming allows the coach to run programs unique to each individual across the squad. And the set pace can be changed as the swimmer improves.
Kids love it! The unobtrusive design and use make the Wetronome a natural addition to their swim gear.
The Wetronome helps provide squads a valuable commodity: predictable results. The ability for any athlete to repeat good behaviour is desirable at all levels.
"Make it happen in training then let it happen in the race".
